- URDC sponsored and organized the year-long
visit of a teacher from the Mariya Pokrova School for the
Deaf in Lviv, Ukraine in 1998-99
- The visit established relationships between
the deaf and hard of hearing community and schools in Alberta,
Lviv and Kyiv.
- Projects under development as a result
of this visit include:
- research and development of Ukrainian Sign Language
- English instruction for deaf students
- provision of hearing aids to deaf Ukrainian students
- a summer institute for deaf Ukrainian students, their
parents and teachers
- participation of Ukrainians in the Canadian Deaf Festival
2000
- URDC facilitated the creation of the Canada-Ukraine
Alliance for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CUADHH) which
now exists to coordinate projects that will enhance education
for the deaf in Ukraine.
- URDC is also funding the creation of the
Centre for the Advancement of Deaf Education (CADE) at Mariya
Pokrova in Lviv.

- URDC and MacEwan Ukraine organized and
delivered an English Language Summer Study Program for Ukrainian
youth in the summer of 1997
- 19 Ukrainian students, aged 10-18 spent
4-8 weeks in Edmonton, participating in English language
training, an enriched recreational program, and in a homestay
program with Canadian families.
- MacEwan's Canadian English Language Institute
now offers this program as part of its focus on international
students.

- URDC was the primary initiator in the establishment
of MacEwan's Kyiv office
- established, under URDC's guidance in
1992 in accordance with MacEwan College's international
priorities of "researching, developing and coordinating
international activities both at home and abroad"
- to facilitate the implementation of MacEwan
College's projects between Canada and Ukraine
- originally provided on-site services for
Canadian businesses and investors
- funded by its shareholders which include
members of the college's Eastern Europe Leadership Team
(EELT)
- the Director
of URDC is the Chair of the EELT

- URDC and the Arts and Science Division
of the college sponsored 2-month work/study placements for
4 fourth-year students from the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla
Academy
- the students took courses at the college,
and worked at the college and the University of Alberta,
in the areas of:
- career development
- marketing and communications
- fundraising
- computer sciences

- URDC and the Kyiv Office facilitated the
registration and enrollment of 6 first-year Ukrainian business
students who came to study business at the college in 1995
- In 1996, URDC and MacEwan Ukraine developed
and implemented a recruitment tour across Ukraine to promote
post-secondary opportunities at the college to Ukrainian
students
- Over 30 students from Ukraine have attended
and continue to attend college programs
