- Hosted by URDC, the Health and Community
Studies division of MacEwan, and the Canadian Society for
International Health for health care professionals to discuss
long-term strategies for assistance in Ukraine.
- Over 200 physicians, nurses, physical
therapists, dentists, social workers and hospital employees
attended.
- The conference resulted in the exchange
of letters of intent between Ukraine's Ministry of Health
and MacEwan College who would later coordinate projects
to improve the educational of health care professionals
in Ukraine.

- URDC organized an intensive 5-week study
program with MacEwan and U of A for nursing instructors
from nine nursing colleges throughout Ukraine.
- The program was followed by a national
workshop on nursing policy development in Ukraine, to develop
standards of practice and academic preparation of nurses.
- This project resulted in the creation
of a national Nurses Association in Ukraine.

Translation of
Nursing Modules
|
- involves the translation of Canadian nursing
manuals and instructional nursing videos to be used in nursing
schools and libraries across Ukraine.
- MacEwan College manages the project with
funding from the Ukrainian Women's Association of Edmonton's
St. John's Cathedral
- Together with Ukrainian Canadian health
care professionals, URDC is spearheading the coordination
of an Endowment for Health Care Education in Ukraine that
will assist in providing funding to this project.

- this project will make to it possible for
health professionals in Ukraine and Canada to hold professionals
discussions through audio and video facilities.
- URDC is working in partnership with Medical
Project Osvita on the project
- This project will allow for medical diagnostic
consultations, international training and upgrading of specialists,
a means of communication to keep health care leaders in
Ukraine aware of technical advances in their field.

Prevention of Birth Defects
|
- this project will establish birth defects
surveillance mechanisms, and amelioration and prevention
of birth defects in two oblasts in Ukraine.
- URDC, MacEwan's Health division and the
Ukrainian-American Birth Defects program in Alabama will
work together on the project
- The project aims to create and distribute
information materials on the diagnosis, management and prevention
of prevalent birth defects, and promote programs to prevent
or diminish the impact of infant mortality and morbidity.
