William and Mary Kostash are long-standing Ukrainian
Canadian community activists who have a special concern about the
self-awareness of current and future generations. This award is made
possible through an endowment established in 1989, on the occasion
of the Kostashes fiftieth wedding anniversary.

Awarded every second year (i.e., 2001, 2003, 2005)
for a project which promotes Ukrainian Canadian identity through the
medium of film, video or multimedia (computer generated).
Works in progress and/or completed works will be considered. Drama,
documentary, experimental, educational, and other genres are acceptable.
Open to Grant MacEwan College students and independent film or video
producers.
Successful applicants must forward two copies of their completed films
or videos to the Ukrainian Resource and Development Centre within
one year of receiving this award.
Successful applicants must acknowledge the assistance of the William
and Mary Kostash Award for Film and Video Arts in all promotional
materials and productions of the project for which the award is granted.
Selection Committee. Projects will be evaluated
on the basis of how well they meet the application criteria (2 points),
how successfully they contribute to increasing the cultural self-awareness
of Ukrainian Canadians (10 points), structure and mechanics (7 points),
artistic merit (7 points), and feasibility (4 points).
If the Selection Committee feels there is no qualified
applicant in any year, the award will not be given for that year.

Applicants are encouraged to include examples of past works or excerpts
of works in progress. All submitted materials must be clearly marked
with the applicant s name and address. For film or video materials,
please indicate the length and format as well.
