Established through Ethnic FM CKER Radio, on the
occasion of its 20th anniversary in November, 2000. This award has
been named after the founder of CKER Radio in Edmonton, Roger Charest,
Sr., a long-time broadcaster, radio personality and visionary, whose
perseverance and dedication to his community have fostered the creation
of a truly multicultural environment at CKER.
The purpose of this award is to foster an awareness
of the possibilities provided by broadcast media in developing understanding
and cooperation between various cultural and ethnic groups in Canadian
society. This award may focus yearly on any particular ethnic group.
The Ukrainian Resource and Development Centre (URDC) at Grant MacEwan
College in Edmonton was chosen as the administrator of the award.
This is in recognition of the dynamic Ukrainian community in Alberta,
and the URDC's groundbreaking and pioneering work, as an ethnocultural
center, in the promotion of professionalism in meeting community
development needs.

create a special program or series of audio vignettes or reports

outlining the intended project, including possible broadcast applications,
or outlets to be used for distribution of the final product. A budget
is also required.
